Repair AgentWitch Local on this computer

When Connect fails, AgentWitch Local does not answer, or this computer is too old for this site, follow these steps in order. Stop when the check succeeds.

Easiest: open AgentWitch Local and choose Repair. Use the steps below only if the app will not open.

Advanced: terminal commands

Update

Get a current AgentWitch Local. Prefer the menu bar app on Apple Silicon, or run the update command that keeps this computer linked.

Download AgentWitch Local

macOS or Linux — paste into Terminal

curl -fsSL "https://www.agentwitch.com/install/agent-witch-update.sh" | bash

Windows — paste into PowerShell or Command Prompt (needs a default WSL distro with systemd)

wsl.exe -e bash -lc "set -o pipefail; curl -fsSL https://www.agentwitch.com/install/agent-witch-update.sh | bash"

This keeps this computer linked. If nothing is linked yet, the command stops and tells you to use Connect this computer on Home.

Restart

Restart AgentWitch Local on this computer, then wait a few seconds.

macOS

AW_HOME="$HOME/.agent-witch"
launchctl kickstart -k "gui/$(id -u)/com.agent-witch"
sleep 2
port="$(sed -n 's/.*"localAppPort"[^0-9]*\([0-9][0-9]*\).*/\1/p' "$HOME/.agent-witch"/profiles/*/local-app-port.json | head -n 1)"; curl -sS -m 5 "http://127.0.0.1:${port}/health" || echo "AWL still not responding — see logs:"
tail -20 "$AW_HOME/agent-witch.error.log" 2>/dev/null || true

Linux or WSL

systemctl --user restart agent-witch.service
sleep 2
port="$(sed -n 's/.*"localAppPort"[^0-9]*\([0-9][0-9]*\).*/\1/p' "$HOME/.agent-witch"/profiles/*/local-app-port.json | head -n 1)"; curl -sS -m 5 "http://127.0.0.1:${port}/health" || echo "AWL still not responding — see logs:"
journalctl --user -u agent-witch.service -n 50 --no-pager

Reconnect

Only if Update and Restart did not help. On Home, choose Connect this computer and run the command it shows.

Check it works

Ask AgentWitch Local for a health reply:

Health check

port="$(sed -n 's/.*"localAppPort"[^0-9]*\([0-9][0-9]*\).*/\1/p' "$HOME/.agent-witch"/profiles/*/local-app-port.json | head -n 1)"; curl -sS -m 5 "http://127.0.0.1:${port}/health"

If you see a line that starts with {"ok":true, AgentWitch Local is running. If it says "wsConnected":false, it is running but not connected yet; try Reconnect. Do not share this output, because it can include a private link code.

Then refresh Home and confirm this computer looks ready.
