Tasks and planning
A task is a piece of work in a project. You or your assistants create it, and a person or an assistant owns it. This page shows how to plan tasks on a board, hand one to an assistant, send one to a computer, repeat work on a schedule, and answer when a run waits for you.
#Find your tasks
Open Home, then open a project. Its tabs are Overview, History, Chat, Tasks, Skills, Knowledge impact and Health.
- Tasks › Board is your planned work.
- Tasks › Schedule holds repeating tasks.
- History lists every run in the project.
- Overview has a "Next for you" block with a Send a task button. A number on the tab counts what waits for you.
Viewers can read tasks but not change them.
#Create a task
- Open Tasks › Board and select Create task.
- Enter a title (up to 120 characters) and, if you like, a description (up to 200).
- Pick a priority (Urgent, High, Normal, Low) and an assignee, or leave the assignee blank.
- Under Start, choose Now or Schedule. A scheduled task waits until that time in your time zone.
- Leave Auto-claim on if any free assistant may take it. If you name an assignee, auto-claim is switched off.
- Select Create.
A project holds up to 500 tasks. Done and cancelled tasks are removed at least three days after they finish.
#Status and owner
The board has a column for each status: To do, In progress, Blocked, Done and Cancelled. List gives a sortable list. Waves groups open tasks by what they wait on: wave 1 can start now, wave 2 starts after wave 1.
Drag a card to another column, or open the task and use Change. A task moves one step at a time:
- To do → In progress → Done.
- In progress ⇄ Blocked. AgentWitch asks "Why is it blocked?"
- Anyone can send a task back to To do. If an assistant is working on it, AgentWitch warns that the assistant will be told to stop.
- Done and Cancelled tasks can be reopened. They return to To do.
The assignee is the owner. A line "Auto-claimed by" shows who took a task. If nobody can take one, the Overview says "Nobody will pick up" the task and offers Turn on auto-claim.
#Let assistants plan for you
- A coding assistant in a linked project folder can ask you once per session whether to record your requests as tasks. You can answer no, yes for this session, or ask each time. If you say yes, it may offer to remember that for the project. Ask the assistant to forget the choice when you want to change it.
- For a big request, an assistant can split it into small tasks. Each gets the closest saved skill. A skill with a script runs the script and costs no tokens. Other tasks start at the cheapest effort level. After a failed try the task moves up one level, and after three failed tries it goes to a person. You do not set the level.
- The small tasks appear on the board like any other. You cannot split a task by hand yet.
#Give a task to an assistant in Chat
- Open the Chat tab or select Send a task on the Overview.
- Type your request. Type @ to pick the assistant. Each message goes to one assistant.
- Leave Create a task ticked to record it as a task. If the assistant already has open work, choose Use that task, Add to current work or Create a new task.
- Press Enter.
#Send a task to a computer
Use the task window when a coding tool on a specific computer should do the work. Open it from Computers (the computer's menu, Delegate task), from Start a task after you install a ready-made skill, or with Retry on a failed run.
- Choose where it runs: one of your computers, or Cursor Cloud, which needs no computer.
- Choose a project folder. Pick a saved one or save a new one with a name and an optional path. The tool starts in that folder.
- Choose a skill or assistant. Custom task starts blank. Continue from history picks up an earlier conversation.
- Choose an AI on your computer, such as Claude, Codex, Cursor or Antigravity.
- Describe the task and select Start (Ctrl+Enter or Cmd+Enter also works).
If no computer is online, select Copy for other AI or Queue for later. Tasks for an offline computer wait until it is back.
When someone else starts a task on your computer, you may see "Approve this task?" with Approve and Deny. If you closed the popup, open Project settings and find "Waiting for your approval". There, owners can also switch on "Allow runs without approval".
#Watch a run
The task window shrinks to a panel at the bottom right, "Task on your computer". It keeps running when you leave the page. Home lists it under "Running on your computer".
- After "Analyzing…", "About … for this run" shows a soft estimate. Past it you see "Past working estimate"; the run can go on. "Approaching session limit" warns of the hard stop.
- The chip shows the state: Connecting, In progress, Waiting on you, Success, Completed with fallback, Failed, Stopped or Timed out.
- "Lost connection to your computer" means no updates arrived for a while. Open AgentWitch on that computer or send the task again.
- Select Stop, then Stop run, to end a run.
While it works, send a follow-up with Queue (after the current step) or Steer message (now). Finish session ends it.
#Answer when it waits
When the chip says "Waiting on you", a window "Assistant needs your input" opens. Read "What we need from you", type an answer or pick a quick reply, and select Send answer and continue. Remind me later keeps the job paused. If you closed the window, select Open question on the run under "Running on your computer" on Home.
#Runs and retry
History lists runs with a status. Filter by Done, Failed, Running, Needs you and more, or search by title or who ran it. Open a run to see "What happened" and "Run history (terminal)". Delete removes one item. Clear all history removes all.
To run a failed task again, select Retry under "Needs your attention" on Home. The task window opens with the request, computer and tool filled in.
#Repeating tasks
Open Tasks › Schedule and select New repeating task.
- In Workflow, pick a saved skill.
- Enter a name. Optionally set a model: Computer default, Haiku 5.5, Sonnet 5.5 or Opus 5.5.
- Choose a Trigger.
- Recurring schedule: Every hour, Every day, Weekdays or Weekly (Monday), plus an hour (0–23) and a time zone.
- Webhook (HTTP POST): AgentWitch shows a URL and a secret. Copy the secret right away. A call to the URL starts the run while your computer is online.
- Select Create repeating task.
Each card has Run now, Pause or Resume, Delete and Run history. Owners and members can change repeating tasks. Viewers can only read them.
To spread work out, the owner can set "Assistants at once" and "Quiet hours" under Health › Limits. Extra tasks wait, and no new runs start in quiet hours.
